SUMMARY:Finissage of the exhibition “Di porpora e di luce" - Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli\, Sala Rari\, 6th February 2024\, 4 pm
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 6th February 2024 marks the end of the exhibition ‘Di porpora e di luce. Forma e materia dell’Antico nei codici della Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli”\, inaugurated last 1st December and curated by Daniela Bacca\, Teresa D’Urso and Giulia Simeoni. The exhibition recounts the centuries-long adventure of the purple manuscripts\, a book product of great value\, which from Antiquity to the Renaissance changed form\, meaning and function\, while maintaining intrinsic symbolic values.\nThe closing event will offer a unique opportunity to get to know eight precious specimens from the Vittorio Emanuele III National Library and the Girolamini Library in Naples up close. For the occasion\, some of the manuscripts will be opened at different folios from those hitherto visible. The researchers behind the project will illustrate the latest findings\, guiding visitors to discover the materials and techniques used in the production of the purple manuscripts. \nFree admission.
